How
to Tie a Sarong
Tired of Trying
to Tie Your Sarong?
Tying a sarong or pareo is simple and
enjoyable! Use your imagination by experimenting
with your tropical sarong. There are so
many ways to tie a sarong, depending on
your style and shape. You can create your
own length, with a few simple folds-something
most swimsuit cover-ups on the market
cannot do! The best part about tying a
sarong is the fabric’s versatility:
you don’t have to wear it only one
way! You can tie the sarong or pareo around
your waist for an easy bathing suit wrap,
a short sarong skirt, or around your neck
as a long sarong dress, or lay on it while
you relax on the beach or poolside as
a sarong towel. The purposes of a sarong
are endless! Many people in the islands
even use sarongs as table cloths, drapes,
or bedspreads. Sarongs are beautiful fabrics
you can use in an infinite number of ways.

How to Wash &
Sizing
We take pride in the quality and care
of our sarongs/pareos, and we think you
will too! Our sarongs are made from the
finest rayon, cotton, and silk fabrics
available. All sarong materials are screened
for defects before, during, and after
the Batik/Sarong making process.
Rayon/Cotton
Sarong
A blend of synthetic textile fibers
that is typically a heavier weighted fabric.
Rayon and cotton sarongs are wrinkle-resistant
if hang dried.
Our rayon and cotton sarongs are machine
washable (gentle cycle). We recommend
hand washing the sarong before the first
time you wear it, as the colors of the
sarong may bleed. Hang your sarongs to
dry with fewer wrinkles than machine drying.
The sarong will get softer to the touch
the more wear they get.
Silk (Chiffon)
Sarong
A blend of synthetic textile fibers consisting
typically of a soft, sheer, light weight
fabric.
The silk sarongs should be hand washed,
or machine washed on a gentle cycle and
hung dried or worn in the sun.
Our full-size sarong measures 65x45 inches,
while the half-sarong measures approx:
We hope you enjoy your unique and beautiful
new sarong!
What
is a Sarong/Pareo?
The History
of the Sarong
How is a Sarong MADE?
The sarong making process is most commonly
known as ‘Batik’, which, in
Indonesia, means “to ‘dot.’”
This process is highly artistic and very
technical. Hand-drawn designs are converted
onto fabric with wax (this is the part
of ‘batik’), then the fabric
is dyed, scraped, and dyed again color
by color until the design is complete.
The Sarong is then air dried. Only the
strongest natural fabrics such as silk,
cotton, and rayon, will endure the blistering
water temperatures and the Batik process
and remain resilient and strong enough
to be a ‘wash and wear’ sarong
product.
Another method of sarong making includes
hand painting images onto silk using a
“gutta resist” technique.
These images are then re-produced on silk
screens and hand printed on to each sarong.
The final product is a beautiful tropical

Many Names for
‘Sarong’
A Sarong is a beautiful handcrafted piece
of fabric created in countries spanning
the entire globe. The same piece of fabric
referred to as a ‘sarong’
in Indonesia is also called a ‘pareo’
in Tahiti, a ‘malo’ in Tonga,
a ‘sulu’ in Fiji, a ‘pakome’
in Thailand, a ‘lava-lava’
in Samoa, a ‘canga’ in Brazil,
and so forth.
The word “sarong” or “pareo”
is the most common term used today possibly
due to the vast majority of sarongs being
made and sold through Indonesia using
the ‘Batik’ technique. Other
forms of creating a sarong are also popular,
and require many talented artisans to
create the final product. Some of the
products we sell are ‘batik’,
and others are hand painted, and still
others are recreated using a silk screening
method. Every sarong is a work of art,
and deserves to be recognized as an original.
Whatever your culture, whatever your style,
a ‘sarong’ will come in handy
in more ways than one! To find out all
